Civic Breaks 13-Year-Old Monthly Record on American Honda 20-Percent Sales Gain

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. today reported July 2013 U.S. sales of 141,439 units, a total increase of 20.9 percent compared with July 2012 (up 16.1 percent based on the Daily Selling Rate, or DSR*). The Honda Division posted July 2013 sales of 126,289 units, an increase of 21.3 percent compared with July 2012. Acura Division U.S. July sales of 15,150 units jumped 18.1 percent compared with July 2012.

• CR-V breaks July sales record set last year by more than 6,500 units, with sales of 27,226, up 32.5 percent compared to July 2012

Maroon 5, Kelly Clarkson Team Up for Honda Civic Tour

Maroon 5 and Kelly Clarkson will team up for the late summer/early fall Honda Civic Tour, it was announced Monday. Promoted by Live Nation, the 2013 Honda Civic Tour kicks off on Aug. 1 in St. Louis and runs through Oct. 5.

Maroon 5 is billed as the headlining act on this year’s run, with American Idol season one winner Clarkson serving as a “special guest.” Rozzi Crane, Tony Lucca and PJ Mortonwill each be opening for the pop superstars on select dates.

Both Maroon 5 and Clarkson were highly active on the Hot 100 in 2012: the pop-rock quintet’s fourth studio album, Overexposed, included the top five smashes “Payphone” and “One More Night,” while Clarkson’s “Stronger” singles “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” and “Dark Side” were followed late last year by “Catch My Breath,” from her Greatest Hits: Chapter One compilation. Last month, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine returned to The Voice as a coach, while Clarkson announced a new Greatest Hits single, “People Like Us.”

The 2013 Honda Civic Tour is the 12th iteration of the annual trek, which was headlined by Linkin Park and Incubus in 2012. General tickets will go on sale Saturday.

Honda Civic: One of ‘Best New Cars of 2012’

It was announced today that the 2012 Honda Civic has been named as one of About.com Cars’ Best New Cars of 2012.

“Ranging from a gas-sipping hybrid to a kick-in-the-pants Si, the Civic lineup provides a variety of fun, fuel-efficient options to satisfy a wide range of customers,” said Michael Accavitti, vice president of marketing operations, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “We are thrilled to receive this award that recognizes the many advantages of the Civic.”

In describing the award-winning Civic, About.com’s Aaron Gold called the 2012 Civic hands-down the most comprehensive compact car on the market. “You can get a sedan or a coupe; a high-fuel-efficiency version; a high-performance version; a leather-lined version; a hybrid version; even an alternative-fuel version that runs on clean natural gas,” Gold said. “And whichever Civic you choose, you’re virtually guaranteed years of trouble-free motoring.”

The award from About.com adds to the 2012 Honda Civic’s growing list of accolades that include being named Green Car of the Year (Civic Natural Gas), capturing Best Resale Value for a Compact Car by Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com, and earning a 2011 IIHS Top Safety Pick.
